After a short delay, followed by its television premiere on G4’s Attack of the Show, the Resident Evil Retribution trailer is finally available for your viewing pleasure.
The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
I’m not really sure what’s going on in the first half of this trailer. Yeah, there’s been a theme in the marketing for all the Resident Evil films of making them look like advertisements for products, then abruptly segueing into the RE universe. But this is just overboard. It’s not clever, it’s merely an ad for phones and tablets, with no real link to the film. I much preferred the very clever ad campaign for Apocalypse (or was it Extinction? There are so many…) that started as an add for an Umbrella Corporation brand skin cream, featuring a model surrounded by dobermans.
Too much product, not enough footage of leather-clad Milla Jovovich kicking monster ass in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the Resident Evil universe. I actually like this film series too, unlike the Underworld franchise, it’s consistently fed my appetite for big dumb action films with a horror twist. Let’s hope the next trailer has more awesome and less showing off of Sony electronics.
