Despite the release of The Avengers on May 4th, Marvel and Disney show no signs of ceasing production on the films featuring the individual Avengers members. Even though Captain America: The First Avenger wasn’t a bad superhero film, watching Cap continue his solo adventures on the big screen just doesn’t seem interesting to me. Captain America is a great character in the Marvel Comic universe, but he’s just a goofy looking action hero with a shield on the big screen. Plus, I really don’t want to see Cap and the Falcon (not confirmed) fighting Red Skull or the Serpent Society. Some comic book characters are better left in the pages of the funny books.
If you’re looking forward to another Captain America movie you will have to wait until April 4, 2014 when Steve Rogers returns for his big sequel. Captain America 2 will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.
Assuming Disney will pack the sequel with too many characters here is a list of potential villains and sidekicks they can choose from:
Just like Batman’s sidekick Robin there are also several incarnations of Bucky. I’m assuming they will ignore the “Bucky rule” and just go with Bucky as Cap’s sidekick for the sequel. Or maybe they will get creative and use one of his lame older female sidekicks like Free Spirit or Golden Girl. My point is, unlike Thor and Iron Man, Captain America doesn’t have a strong enough Rogues Gallery or cool enough sidekicks to maintain a long running franchise. He’s better left to the Avengers movies.
