Sending Jason, Pinhead, or even the Leprechaun into space is a little wacky, but sending the Incredible Hulk into space makes a lot of sense in the Marvel Universe. According to Latino Review, Marvel plans to follow the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk story-lines for the next two phases of their planned superhero movie franchises featuring The Avengers characters.
In Planet Hulk, the Illuminati (Namor, Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Bolt, Dr. Strange and Professor X) attempt to send the Hulk to a peaceful planet far away from Earth after deeming him too dangerous for civilization. The plan goes wrong after the Hulk’s ship passes through a wormhole and he lands on a planet named Sakaar. The Hulk is then forced to fight in gladiator type battles for the planet’s emperor, the Red King. Yup! The same tired “forced to fight in an arena” story-line used by every sci-fi TV show ever created. However, it’s not as bad as it sounds. Lionsgate released a cartoon adaptation of Planet Hulk to DVD in 2010. It has a few minor changes from the comics, but it will give you a general idea if you want to check it out.
According to the rumor, Marvel plans to launch the Hulk into space during the second Avengers movie which will then be followed by a stand alone Hulk movie aka Planet Hulk. The third Avengers movie will follow the events of World War Hulk, where he returns to Earth for revenge. Too bad Marvel didn’t think about doing something like this years ago, instead of ruining their other franchises with horrible sequels and reboots. However, Phase 3 is also going to include Ant-Man and Dr. Strange movies, so they may be headed down the wrong path already.
