Gravity Trailer Excites and Terrifies

Gravity Trailer

Unless I’m mistaken, falling is a nearly universal fear. I’m not talking about what I do every time I try to eat while walking up stairs or step on a metal street grate in the rain. I’m talking about the plunge – the one that jolts us awake when our dreams toss us from the top of some place we know we shouldn’t be. I mean, I know people bungee jump, and base jump, and parachute all over all the time. But the fact remains, unless they’re suicidal, they always have that something protecting them. And to me, that’s what makes the trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s upcoming film, Gravity, so terrifying.

Tribeca Film Fest 2013: Tricked (2012, Dir. Paul Verhoeven)

Tricked

I’m illiterate. That’s right. Even this article was translated from doo-doo smears I left on paper for our co-editior, Madeleine. This is most likely why I didn’t know who Paul Verhoeven was. Why I haven’t seen Robocop, or Basic Instinct (let’s also pretend that illiteracy prevents the viewing of certain situationally convenient movies), or most of his other films. I may have seen Total Recall, but that idea is based off a vague memory of Schwarzenegger’s head exploding on mars. Was that in that movie? Whatever. I digress.

Not knowing who he was, I was attracted to Tricked because of its concept – crowdsourcing. I liked the idea of a community made, democratically collaborative film, and thought I’d give it a shot. And it did not disappoint.

Upside Down Trailer Visually Stunning, But Will The Story Hold Up?

Upside Down Trailer

As the title suggests, the trailer for the upcoming film Upside Down, written and directed by Juan Solanas, looks beautiful. Twin planets, opposing gravity, and all sorts of visual shenanigans allows a lot of potential for the film to really blow us away. But will the story follow suit? Essentially a Romeo & Juliet on a planetary scale, the story looks like it could fall flat unless the concept of opposing gravity, love, and its visuals all come together to make a coherent and compelling story.

Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 15 Review: “Stand By Me”

Vampire Diaries - Stand By Me Episode Recap

Vampire Diaries has not failed to impress. Each episode since the mid season premiere has been packed with twists, turns, and surprises, yet perhaps none have been as shocking, and as meaningful as Jeremy’s death. As revealed in this episode, as a hunter Jeremy is now a supernatural being, and as such has negated the effect of his ring. With Silas revived, Klaus free, and the cure gone, the cast of Vampire Diaries are going to be scrambling, and Jeremy might be the last thing they can worry about

With that said, let’s see what went down in episode 15 of the 4th season of Vampire Diaries.

It’s A Disaster Vine Release Is Quirky, But Tries Too Hard

Its A Disaster Vine Release

It’s A Disaster, the new ensemble film from Todd Berger (starring David Cross and Julia Styles) has been stirring up quite a bit of buzz recently. The film now has the designation of being the first film released, ahead of its VOD release on March 5th and limited theater release on April 15th, on  Twitter’s new 6 second looping video app, Vine. At 6 seconds each, the clips are perfect to watch in a hurry, however it seems strange to me to market an entire film in this format.

Leviathan Documentary Trailer Captivates

Leviathan Trailer

At two minutes and thirty seconds, the trailer for the upcoming documentary Leviathan seems inundating. After all, a doc about fisherman may be a little unnecessary at this point,(just think about the existing ‘reality’ shows on the same subject, such as Lobstermen, The Most Dangerous Catch, and so on… and especially other large Hollywood films like The Perfect Storm (I know it’s a little old, but it instantly popped into my mind the second I heard what Leviathan was about), what more is there to say on fishermen on film?

Big Ass Spider Trailer Does Not Impress

big-ass-spider-trailer-review_you-won-cannes

Not that I had any high hopes for this, in fact, the only reason I decided to watch the Big Ass Spider trailer was how shocked I was by another giant spider movie coming out in 2013. Although at this rate why should I be surprised? There are also two hunter/slayer re-envisioning of old fairy tales coming out, before that there were three Snow White movies…. all the way back to Volcano and Dante’s Peak (and before that, and before that…) Yet where I found Spiders 3D to be ridiculous (especially at the prospect of 3D spiders jumping out all over the place,) Big Ass Spider did nothing for me. It didn’t even make me feel uncomfortable, and I hate spiders.

Trailer Review: Spiders 3D

Spiders 3D trailer

You would never think a movie titled “Spiders 3D” would be interesting. In fact, by its name alone one would, and should, assume that it is an IMAX documentary you would take your little sister to (if you wanted her to kill herself). And it shouldn’t be. Nothing about this movie should make me want to watch it. But I do. I do so bad it hurts.

Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 14 Review: “Down The Rabbit Hole”

Vampire Diaries

The last episode of Vampire Diaries, “A View To A Kill”, revealed a lot about the cure: its location, Shane’s involvement, and the new power struggle between the characters. With only a handful of episodes left in season 4, a lot is about to go down in the struggle to find the first true original, and to find the cure to vampirism. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at what happened in season 4 episode 15 of Vampire Diaries —”Down The Rabbit Hole”.
