Watts up with the story of Princess Di now? Naomi Watts has replaced Jessica Chastain as Princess Diana in Oliver Hirschbiegel’s Princess Diana biopic Caught in Flight. No one is sure what prompted the change, but it could have to do with Chastain’s hectic schedule.
Watts said that it is “an honor to be able to play this iconic role. Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her onscreen.”
The movie written by Stephen Jeffreys (Writer of The Libertine), and is being touted as a “love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man,” aka, Diana’s secret love affair with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan. The film will reportedly capture the the last two year’s of Diana’s life and focus on her role as a humanitarian. The Princess of Wales met Khan in 1995 before dying in a car crash in 1997.
Caught in Flight is scheduled to start shooting in the UK later this year.
